Living members of God's church
S-1 Peter 2
5 And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God. 6 As the Scriptures say,
“I am placing a cornerstone in Jerusalem,
chosen for great honor,
and anyone who trusts in him
will never be disgraced.”
Once you had no identity as a people;
now you are God’s people.
Once you received no mercy;
now you have received God’s mercy.
11 Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls.12 Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world.
O - My only observation is how comforting this passage really is to me, that God chose to create the new temple with us as His living stones, and Jesus as the Cornerstone. We are to be seen to the world as God's church, and we interact with those who don't know him to be intermediaries between God and man. We have been made residents of God's Kingdom and are now temporary residents of this world, and as such we should no longer live pleasing the worldly desires but those which are kingdom building.
A - The application for me is to recognize I am a new creation and a temporary resident here. I have a purpose and a calling to represent the Church and Christ in all that I do. To intercede for those that do not yet know God and to share a clear picture of his love, mercy, and kingdom.
P - Dear heavenly Father, thank you for this mornings lesson, may it be sealed to my heart. I pray Lord that you show me where I am to work in this season ahead to represent you and share your love and mercy with others. I pray all this in Jesus, name, Amen.
