Follow the one true God
S - Deut 12:29 (NASB)

29 “When the LORD your God cuts off before you the nations which you are going in to dispossess, and you dispossess them and dwell in their land, 30 beware that you are not ensnared to follow them, after they are destroyed before you, and that you do not inquire after their gods, saying, ‘How do these nations serve their gods, that I also may do likewise?’

O - This is the instruction of Moses, to the Nation of Israel before they enter the promised land.  It is one full of wisdom because the Lord knows the nature of man.   Even though given full possession of the land, our covetous nature draws us to want what others have, even if it is not profitable for us.

A - The application for me is to see this as a teaching for my own family.  As God has brought us through our desert season and into the promised land, we must be wary not to fall in the trap of coveting that which the people of this land have worshiped and valued.   California is a land of plenty,  but the people in it have a diverse and in some cases perverse way of living in it.  The entanglement of worshiping people or things is one that is pervasive, and one in which I have lived before (and even participated in).   I must seek to follow the one true God, and follow His commandments to love Him and love others.  To seek the kingdom of God and not be of this world, but be transformed by Jesus into the man God created me to be.

P - Dear heavenly Father, thank you for this lesson today, may it be sealed to my heart.  I pray Lord that you would be one influence in my life that I would use to guide my every decision.  That you would help protect my heart and mind from wandering to follow and desire things of this world.  I pray all this in Jesus name, Amen.
